Dear Genius233157,symmastia is a rare breast condition that occurs when soft web-like breast tissue pulls breast implants towards each other, until the breasts meet uncomfortably at the center of the chest near the sternum (the body’s midline point). Given this abnormal union, symmastia is known by many other names, including breadloafing, kissing breast implants, and the uniboob.Unfortunately, this condition causes the surrounding skin and pectoral muscles to literally lift off the breast bone as the implants are pulled together. This consequently causes pain and discomfort, as well as obvious distortion of the breasts, which can only be disguised with clothing that does not show cleavage.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Synmastia is extremely rare even if the muscle fibers are released completely. I have never seen a case in 35 years
Dear Virginian, Breasts augmentation under the muscles require partial medial dissection of the pectoral muscles in order to get nice cleavage. Obviously it has to be precise maneuver and avoid complete detachment of the muscles from the chest bone, which will cause the dreaded condition - Symastia. Always, consult with experienced board certified plastic surgeon who operate in accredited surgery center for your safety. Most importantly, check the before and after pictures of breasts augmentation in the photo gallery, to make sure that they are numerous, consistent and attractive with nice cleavage, nice projection, symmetrical and natural looking. Best of luck, Dr Widder widderplasticsurgery.com
Thank you for sharing your question. Yes, if the muscle fibers running along the breast bone are fully released, it is a risk for the development of a uniboob.
Yes you can through surgery create one breast cavity where the two open up in the middle. This is called Symmastia. You would not want symmastia. This is a difficult problem to fix. For better cleavage with wide set breasts consider fat grafting with your breast augmentation.
Anything can do anything in surgery. However, the usual cause for the "uniboob" is choosing implants that are too large and wide for the base of your breasts.
Yes, medial dissection and release of the pectoral is muscle during a breast augmentation May lead to a “Uniboob” symmastia issue. So can placement of very large implants (causing lifting of the sternal skin). Some patients are restricted from having very close cleavage due to their sternal or rib cage anatomy. Dr. Taranow
The answer to this question is based on the in person consultation. Have your surgeon review the capsular contracture risk numbers with you regarding over versus under or partially under the muscle.
I strongly wish you would reconsider the choice you are making. However, if your pregnancy test is positive still, you will be denied surgery.
From the images submitted it appears you can proceed with a submuscular augmentation. It's important to understand this will not give you a lifted result. The nipple position will remain similar to what you have now, but you will obviously have more volume.
