Is my new scar going to heal bad because of a staph infection? (photos)

I go in 6 weeks post-op because I have an infection. He told me about our dirt and it contains staph and it could be from dogs or animals at home. I wish I would have known this before surgery considering my profession is dog/animal grooming. Which I also made him aware of at the time of consultation. Makes since but the scar I had was actually from MRSA which I informed him offs well. So of course my biggest concern was getting an infection in a scar I paid to fix.

I suggest getting this treated for the infection and "decolonization" of your body and then doing laser treatments to improve the final results.  Silicone gel and topical antibiotic should be employed now.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Hello Jenifr,The healing process is quite complex.  There are certain factors that aid the healing process such as keeping tension away from the wound, approximating the edges well, keeping it clean, and keeping it moist in the beginning.  There are certain factors that hinder the healing process such as an infection.  Depending on how soon after the infection treatment was initiated can affect how the healing will take place.  There are also certain treatments that can be performed during the healing process to improve the scar such as steroid injections and possibly laser or dermabrasion treatments.  There is no sure fire way to prevent all infections but there are post treatment recommendations I provide my patients with to minimize the risk.  I recommend you continue to follow up closely with your surgeon so if other treatments are needed during the healing phase they can be performed.  I hope this helps and good luck.
