What can I do about this scar on my lip? (photos)

Question

It's been about a year since the incident a stick went completely through my lip, 5 stitches were needed. Since then wound has healed but left hardened tissue inside with noticeable unevenness and discoloration.

Our treatments use combination therapy to improve the epidermis and dermis for most deep scars. The options available for acne scars depend on the character of your scars, in terms of topography and contour. We see atrophic and hypertrophic acne scars, as well as scars that have hypo and hyperpigmentation. We begin each scar evaluation with an assessment of scar quality and subtype. Our main concern is rebuilding collagen and that is why we use a HIDEF protocol that includes combination therapy. Morpheus 8, scar subcision, fibrous release, fractional laser, CO2 laser, Thulium laser, PDL Vbeam laser, and fractional resurfacing can be used in addition to TCA Cross and chemical peels to further improve skin. Patients should start Melarase AM and Melarase PM for active hyperpigmentation. Always begin with a consultation to decide whether early subcision should be started.

I appreciate your question.You have built up scar from the wound closing.This is best addressed by making an incision inside the mouth at the wet/dry junction and bringing the lip inward.It also appears that the scar has thickness in the vertical direction which may be due to poor healingthis will need to be revised to match things up better The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam.Please see a board-certified plastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic and restorative plastic surgery.best of luck!Dr Schwartz

I suggest seeing a cosmetic dermatologist or plastic surgeon with experience in lasers and scars.  This can be treated with co2 laser resurfacing, and if not improved enough, scar revision.  Best, Dr. Emer.
