Answer: Body Changes & Weight Gain after Breast Augmentation Your story is interesting, and I am sure distressing for you. I have never heard of someone who leads such a healthy lifestyle and seems to have been in good health have this reaction after a routine breast augment. The Food and Drug Administration spent many years investigating silicone gel breast implants and finally stated that they didn't find any objective scientific evidence to indicate that breast implants cause any autoimmune disease or increase the risk for such inflammatory problems. Also, silicone is considered one of the most non-antigenic substances that can be introduced into the body. However, that might not mean that there could be an individual with some type of sensitivity to the material. If things don't settle down, I would consult a reputable internist or even a rheumatologist about your concerns. By the way, there has now been an extremely rare type of lymphoma discovered that develops in the scar capsule surrounding textured implants (only), that is curable by removing the scar capsules, but that usually manifests as a fluid collection around the implants, and doesn't lead to the weight gain you mention. Good luck.

Answer: Is this inflammation in my body? Thank you for your pictures and questions. You did not mention how far out from surgery you are. There can typically be some swelling after surgery but what you are describing sounds excessive. I would discuss your concerns with your board certified plastic surgeon, hopefully they can help you.Best of luck!Dallas R. Answer: Is this inflammation? Thank you for sharing your question and photograph. Most weight gain after a breast augmentation centers around water, but 15 pounds is excessive and I would investigate with your surgeon for other factors. Best wishes.

Answer: Weight gain after surgery Although it is common to gain water weight and feel bloated for a few weeks after surgery due to hormone shifts and the body’s stress response, 15 pounds is more than expected. Mention this to your surgeon and make sure there isn’t anything abnormal going on now. If things don’t return to normal after you are back to normal activity, then discuss this with your family practice doctor or OB/GYN since there may be another cause for the weight gain.

Answer: Is this inflammation in my body? Thanks for your question. Whereas it is somewhat normal to see shift in fluid balance after surgery it shouldn’t last more than a week and seldom would It amount to more than a few pounds. It would be nice if we knew whether the weight is due to fat or lean body mass since if you weight lift this could be muscle mass and not fat that you are gaining. You can buy scales that calculate the percent body fat and which compartment it’s in too. See if this helps solve your problem. Also you should seek medical advise from yout GP if it doesn’t self correct with return to normal numbers.
