I have numbness and discomfort on my right ear, and my right jaw and neck have been throbbing and now my jaw is swollen. Could not sleep in pain and discomfort. Could the thread or needle perforate a nerve or something? I can feel some cones on the right and they are very tender to soft touch. I’m afraid I got an infection...What can I do or take? The doctor who did the procedure is in Brazil and I’m back in Florida.
Answer: Post Treatment Discomfort Thank you for your question. Sorry to hear that you have been having some issues after your Silhouette Soft treatment. The needle or thread is unlikely to have perforated a nerve. There can be some swelling post treatment which can last in some cases up to 14 days. Depending on the level of the placement of the threads, you can sometimes feel the threads but this will subside. It is important that you speak/see the doctor who carried out the treatment and they can take a look for you. You can use cool packs to reduce any swelling and ibuprofen (if you can) to reduce any inflammation that is present. You may be prescribed a course of antibiotics if your doctor thinks you have an infection present.

Answer: Post treatment discomfort Im sorry to hear you have had discomfort and numbness post your Silhouette Soft Procedure. Discomfort is very common post treatment and can last up to 2 weeks. Also depending on your skin thickness it is possible to be able to palpate the cones if you have thin skin for a while after the procedure. The treatment is very unlikely to have caused any nerve damage but without knowing the placement depth of the sutures or their positions it is difficult to comment. Sometimes post treatment swelling can cause some numbness and tingling but should subside. It is good practice to follow up patients at 2 weeks and 3 months to ensure everything is settling down well and there are no concerns. If you are unable to return to your treating doctor it would be advisable to make contact with the clinic and potentially arrange a skype call so they can offer advice. If your symptoms do not settle or you develop any swelling or redness around the sutures i would advise seeing a local clinic and getting assessed to ensure there isnt an underlying infection. I hope you get sorted

Answer: Silhouette Soft treatment in the neck - post-operative swelling I am sorry to hear that you have a concern following your Silhouette treatment. It is not unusual to have some tenderness and occasional swelling after treatment but this normally subsides after two weeks approximately. It is sometimes possible to feel the cones under the skin but this depends on the thread position and depth placed. There can also be a tingling sensation or numb feeling but this is usually due to pressure on the nerve below the ear rather than because it has been penetrated. It is difficult to comment without knowing the exact positioning of the threads. I would suggest that you contact the doctor who carried out the treatment, explain your symptoms and ask for advice. Meanwhile I recommend using a cold compress to reduce swelling and take anti-inflammatory pain medication such as Ibuprofen. If there is infection it may be necessary to take antibiotics. I hope this is helpful Best wishes Dr Ian Hallam MBE
