Hi, i would like to know if its safe to get a fat transfer if i already have butt implants? My implants are really nice and i like them but they are a little noticeable on the top (one cheek is slightly higher than the other) and on the sides. My question is: is it safe to get fat transfer to make them less noticeable? I’ve heard that bbls are dangerous. Thank you in advance.
Answer: Safe BBL: SCUBA A safe Brazilian Buttock Lift (BBL), referred to as a Safe California Ultrasound Assisted Buttock Augmentation (SCUBA) at my practice allows for the safe transfer of fat to the buttocks by allowing direct visualization of your implants during a fat transfer procedure. Through its direct visualization, both risk of injury to the implant and the risk of developing a potentially detrimental fat emboli can be minimized. If you are a good candidate (less than 5L of fat) for a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), the optimal outcomes are achieved with: 1) use of VASER liposuction to harvest the fat, 2) a closed looped system to process the fat, and 3) strategic micro-packet transplant technique. These three processes have demonstrated over 95% fat graft take. This means that your results will be stable as long as you maintain your weight. As an official VASER trainer, I am routinely referred unhappy BBL patients. One of the most common reasons for disgruntled BBL patients is that patients are not able to accurately communicate their desired buttocks goals to their surgeons. A buttocks assessment tool can be an invaluable tool to communicate to your surgeon the exact buttocks size and shape you are desiring. A Skype or FaceTime consultation with a BBL specialist can help you get an accurate recommendation and pricing. Respectfully, Arian Mowlavi MD,FACS Realself 100 Hall of Fame Inductee

Answer: BBL to cover visible implants It sounds like your implants were placed above the gluteus muscle and this is why they are visible. Grafting fat over the implant will not make the implant less visible. The correct procedure is to revise the gluteal implants into a intra-muscular position. It is possible to have a BBL after implants. Each plastic surgeon will have the review and sometimes it varies from case to case but it doesn’t sound like fat transfer is going to accomplish what you are hoping for. It’s better to deal with the primary problem. In your case your implant is not in the correct position. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
