Can the Fat & Pooch Return After Tummy Tuck?

I have also heard that sometimes after lipo, you might start putting on the weight in other areas.

Weight Gain Impacts Results

When weight gain occurs following abdominoplasty, the impact upon the procedure can be significant. Many of the original problems such as loose saggy skin, weakened muscles and stretch marks can be recreated.
The severity of the problem is dependent upon the magnitude of the weight gain. Weight gains that are less than ten pounds, for instance, might result in fat accumulation in the abdominal wall. This might require additional liposuction.
Larger weight gains may recreate many of the original findings that necessitated the abdominoplasty. This might result in the need for a revisional abdominoplasty. For abdominoplasty patients, lifestyle changes are the best insurance against these types of problems.

The fat has to go somewhere! Gaining weight after liposuction

Yes, it is true, if you gain weight after liposuction or tummy tuck, you will tend to deposit the new fat in areas that were not treated according to your genetic predisposition.

Weight gain after body contouring

Tummy tuck and liposuction removes almost pure fat from the body.  Say you had four pounds removed, your new "starting weight" is what you weighed before surgery minus four pounds.  If you level off at your "starting weight", you have actually gained fat.  This fat can be packed away just about anywhere except the areas that were significantly reduced.

The most common example of this increased fat in the midriff area or along the posterior hips where no fat was removed.

It's really just subtraction and addition:  125 pounds - 4 pounds(removed with lipo) + 4 pounds(added with pita chips) = odd shape and unhappy patient!

As long as you stay at the same weight, the "pooch" should not come back.

After removal of the infraumbilical fat, there is no reason to believe the pooch will return. However, if you put on a significant amount of weight, anything is possible. The stomach is flattest early on and then relaxes some, but tummy tuck results are usually long lasting.

Liposuction and weight gain

If you have liposuction of one area, and then you gain weight, you will probably not put it back on in the same proportion as before and the fat will accumulate in other areas as well.

Key is to maintain your weight

If your tummy tuck is performed correctly,  afluctuations in weight or pregnancy are the only way the pooch can return after a tummy tuck.  If you gain weight after liposuction,  the liposuctioned areas will typically not change to the same extent as a non-liposuctioned area.    The key point is to maintain a stable weight after surgery, such that you can maximize the longevity of your hard earned result.

Liposuction and Weight Gain

Liposuction has no direct affect on fat in other areas.  Fat cells that remain in area treated and not treated by liposuction will increase in size (NOT NUMBER) if one did not maintain his or her weight.  This why it is important that a candidate for liposuction have a fairly constant weight.

Effects of Liposuction on other areas

If you gain weight after Liposuction, you may notice it in other areas or even along the area that was treated. It is best to maintain your weight after surgery so the results are stable.

The Lasting Effects of a Tummy Tuck and/or a Mommy Makeover

The Mommy Makeover is a combination of procedures to bring a woman’s body back to the way she looked prior to pregnancy and information that you read online may not apply to your personal situation. Also, another element to a satisfying result of your procedures are realistic #expectations. The best method and #technique for your #procedures will be discussed in greater length during your one-on-one consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon.  Therefore, if you experience weight gain, pregnancies, or any other drastic body altering changes, it is very possible the results may be compromised.

Your surgery should be performed by a #PlasticSurgeon who is board-certified and has a great deal of experience with the procedures you are seeking. For instance, a plastic surgeon who have specialized in breast surgery and cosmetic surgery is suitable to perform your #BreastAugmentation. Aside from checking #board-certification, it is suggested that you look at before and after photos of the surgeons actual patients, and read patient reviews. Gathering all of this information will help you make a well-informed decision.
