How to excise the permanent filler polyacrylamide from nasolabial folds? (Photo)

Permanent fillers can produce inflammation (with swelling), sometimes years after the injection .Steroid injections can be tried to reduce the inflammatory response.  There is nothing injectable to remove the polyacrylamide (hyaluronidase can remove hyaluronic acid fillers).  The product incorporates into the tissues and cannot be expressed.  Unfortunately the only way to remove it is by excision which results in a scar.

It is never easy to remove permanent filler because it often disperses in many layers and may also leave fibrosis.

Removal of any permanent facial filler is never a straightforward procedure. These fillers tend to incorporate into the surrounding soft tissues making the removal difficult. It is usually not possible to remove these fillers with aspiration either. The only was to debulk the filler volume is through surgery, making incision right in the nasolabial fold and trying to identify the filler within the soft tissues and remove it manually. This never results in complete filler removal though and will leave a surgical scar. It is a tuff problem, and this is why I avoid using permanent fillers in my practice.
