It may be that your scars are hyper-pigmented.  (Hard to tell without a photo.)I've had good success with treating this problem with 4% hydroquinone cream on these darker areas. 

It can take over a year for scars to completely fade naturally. So, things will probably get better with time.  If not, then an IPL treatment might help.  If you want a change now, you could consider an IPL treatment now. Remember, all scars are permanent and no treatment can erase them, just possibly improve them.

Pictures of the scars would allow me to give you a better answer to your question. In general, scars will lighten over time. (one to two years)Silicone patches, Mederma, and other scar fade remedies may also help expedite the resolution of the hyper-pigmentation. Lastly, a Kenalog 40 injection directly into the scar may also help. Consult your surgeon who will give your guidance and advice.
