What is this extra fat in my lip? (photos)

Question

I have an extra tissue inside my top lip that is more prominent when I pucker my lips or sometimes when I close my mouth its like poking out. I was wondering what this is and how I could get it treated. I am also a frequent lipstick wearer which makes it much more noticeable when lipstick is on due to the color difference between the lipstick on my lips and the pocket of tissue showing.

It sounds like you may have a condition known as a mucous retention cyst, also called a mucocele. This is a small, painless sac that contains clear fluid and is caused by a blocked or damaged salivary gland duct. These cysts can appear in the lips, cheeks, or roof of the mouth and can be more noticeable when you pucker your lips or close your mouth.

In most cases, mucous retention cysts do not require treatment and will resolve on their own within a few weeks. However, if the cyst is large, causing discomfort, or affecting your appearance, you may want to consider having it removed. This can be done through a minor surgical procedure performed by an oral surgeon or dentist.

If you are concerned about the appearance of the cyst, you may want to consider using a concealer or color-correcting product to help minimize its visibility. Additionally, you may want to avoid wearing bold or bright lipsticks that could draw attention to the area.

it looks like lip tissue, mucosal redundancy. There may be some specific tissue like mucosal cyst, lipoma, vascular tissue underneath, obviously benign. Direct excision (removal of the folds) would be one of the options. In person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon is recommended. Good luck.
