Excessive bruising and exposed stitches? How worried should I be? 9 days post op BA. (photos)

Dear bigs14279,some bruising is normal after the surgery. It can last several weeks before it completely goes away. If you are concerned, I would suggest you to consult your plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.Daniel Barrett, MD

bigs14279.  I appreciate your concern, but your photographs and description appear to demonstrate normal healing at this stage of your recovery. Check in with your plastic surgeon as soon as you can to stay on the safe side. Good luck.

Hello and thank you for your question.  I understand why you are concerned, because you do have some bruising surrounding your incision, but this amount of bruising is not unusual or excessive, nine days following surgery.   The suture you are referring to appears to be an absorbable stitch that is commonly run under the superficial skin.  If you are anxious, you can contact your surgeon and he or she will direct you to see them sooner than Monday if they are concerned, or during the week, and he or she will also likely let you know what they want to do with that suture when you are seen.  Hope this helps.

Bruising is normal and you do have two different breasts that may not heal at the exact same rate. Your surgeon can trim the stitch when you are seen.
