Why is my hand swelling after breast augmentation?

Did you have an axillary incision?  If so, it could be due to lymphedema.  An unusual RSD could also be possible (but unlikely).  It sounds like a DVT has been worked-up already.  Ask your PS to re-examine you and perhaps recommend a referral to a plastic surgeon with expertise in hand surgery.Best,

Interesting issue, I would think DVT but you have already had that ruled out. After that I would have to think you had an inciison in your armpit and your lymphatics have been compromised. I would suggest a compression sleeve

Thanks for your question.This is an interesting issue and one you should discuss with your plastic surgeon.  Early after surgery some swelling is expected but it resolves quickly. It could be related to some scarring around the lymphatics if a transaxillary approach was used.  I would definitely recommend discussing this with a hand specialist if the problem persists.

Hand swelling lasting this long is not typical. It also depends on the site of incision, if an axillary approach was used then that could explain the swelling as a result of lymphedema. I would recommend that you see a hand surgeon to evaluate you and there some therapy exercises that they can do to reduce swelling.
