I have a hard lump to the left of my belly button. After having an ultrasound today the surgeon said it's a hematoma. It's causing me quite a bit of discomfort, especially after eating and when being over. Is there any way to help speed along the hematoma going away? I am going to discuss getting it drained when I see the Dr for the follow up appointment but anything else that can help? Is there any danger in leaving it to go on its own? Thanks.

Answer: Hematoma after a tummy tuck It looks like you have a very nice result. A small hematoma like this is often just an inconvenience as long as the pain continues to improve. Drainage is the most direct way to speed up healing. It may take 2 or 3 weeks for the hematoma, which is usually like Jell-O, to become more fluid. In the meantime, your surgeon may suggest gentle massage or perhaps just leaving it alone. Your discomfort should improve over time either away.

Answer: Recommendations for Accelerating the Resorption of a Hematoma and When to Consider Drainage Hematomas usually resorb with time, although this may vary depending on their size and location. To facilitate resorption, you can apply warm compresses after 48-72 hours, as this stimulates circulation to the area. Staying well hydrated and consuming foods rich in vitamin C may also help.Drainage is usually considered only if the hematoma is very bothersome or large, as in many cases it resolves without intervention. In general, allowing it to reabsorb naturally is safe, but it is important to continue medical follow-up to ensure proper recovery.
