Topical ibuprofen gel applied to other body parts after rhinoplasty for reocvery?

Hi, I’m due to have a rhinoplasty procedure very shortly. I’m aware that taking ibuprofen orally is a bad idea due to it thinning the blood and prolonging recovery. However, I use ibuprofen gel for sore muscles. I just wondered if anyone knew whether applying ibuprofen gel topically will have any impact on my recovery after rhinoplasty?

I recommend staying away from any NSAID in any delivery form if you are having a rhinoplasty soon.  Although the bioavailability is much lower in topical form, ibuprofen affects the ability of yor platelets to clump, which is contraindicated when having a procedure in a vascular area like the nose.

How the drug is administered, is irrelevant on its affect on blood clotting.
Some plastic surgeons are very particular about avoiding nonsteroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs before surgery.
I suggest you contact your provider and ask them for specific guidelines.
