Hi, I’ve recently noticed the area where my right ear joins my face the skin is loose and has created a crease line - can this be helped & what may have caused it please? 43 yr old female with T1D, EDS type 3

Please see your surgeon to get this suture removed. It should not negatively impact your results since it’s already been 8 months since your surgery.

Hi and thank you for your question.It appears that you have had a small separation (dehiscense) of the incision. This should heal on its own with a little antibiotic ointment. I definitely suggest that you see your surgeon but I anticipate that they will provide you reassurance.

You are early on in your recovery. Please allow about 3-6 months or so for any swelling to subside before assessing your results. At that point, if you still dislike your results, please return to your surgeon to discuss, specifying what you’re concerned about. Revision surgery may be an option.

Do you feel any stitches popping out of your incision? Is your incision tender? Sometimes, permanent sutures used in Otoplasty surgery may pop out. This can cause localized redness. To best answer your question, you should consider visiting your surgeon or another reputable facial plastic...

The distortion of the ear comes from skin closure tension and that is what is exposing more of the canal. It is called a smeared ear. You will need a scar revision. Best Wishes, Gary Horndeski, M.D.
