Do rhinoplasty steroid injections affect other surgeries?

I am 1 year and 3 months post-op (rhinoplasty) and I am due to have steroid injections for remaining swelling end of September. However I am also in the process of setting a date for buccal fat removal - would the steroid injections affect me in anyway regarding my new surgery? Do I need to let a certain amount of time to pass before I can have surgery again after receiving steroid injections to my nose?

Local injection of steroids has limited affect on the whole body and should not affect wound healing.  It should be safe to proceed with buccal fat removal.

Thank you for your question. Steroid injections for swelling are generally administered by a very fine-tipped needle in order to localize their effects. The goal is for the steroid to only address the swelled area and not other features of the face.
When properly administered, steroid injections should not affect other facial features or hinder the success of other procedures. I recommend scheduling an in-person consultation with an experienced, board-certified facial plastic surgeon who will take your injections and future cosmetic surgery under consideration.

Small amount of corticosteroids injected in the nose to diminish swelling/scar formation will not affect other procedure done in the face or elsewhere. Good luck.

Hi there! Steroid injections after rhinoplasty tend to be very localized in how they affect swelling. Unlike steroids taken by mouth, ones given at certain areas of the skin via injection don't have a substantial uptake in the blood stream. As for the buccal fat removal, I don't feel this would affect the surgery. Spacing by a week to be careful is a good choice. Hope your procedures go well!

Potential side effects of intralesional steroid injections are mostly limited to local phenomena in the area of treatment including pigmentary change, dermal atrophy (thinning), and hypervascularity. Systemic effects are quite rare.
Discuss this issue directly with your plastic surgeon as practice protocols vary.
