Definitely ask your surgeon--how long they want you to wear the nostril retainer will depend on your particular case and what was done. I typically do not have patients wear nostril retainers after rhinoplasty, because they can be uncomfortable and of course are an obvious sign of surgery, and I typically find them unnecessary.

It can be necessary for some people to wear it only at night, while others might need to wear it every day for a few months. In rare cases, it may be much longer. In our office, we decide about length of use, based on what technique was specifically performed. It's critical to carefully adhere to your surgeon's recommendations. They will offer tailored advice according to your particular requirements and the kind of rhinoplasty you had.

-Procedure severity: More involved procedures could need using retainers and longer healing periods.

This will depend on your healing process and what your surgeon recommends to you. Sometimes we recommend our patients keep it on day and night for a month then keep using it for another month only at night when they go to bed. Everyone heals differently. Most patients do not even need nostril retainers but if your surgeon recommended you to use them then make sure you are using the correct size for your nostrils and definitely follow his instructions. Hi there! I'm assuming the nostril retainer is in place to prevent further reduction in size? If that's the case, I usually have my patients wear it 24/7 for multiple weeks. Then, nightly for several months until stability is established. If the retainer is not fit properly, contracture of the nostril can occur and scarring recur. Hope this helps you!

In general, a nostril retainer is not usually required in traditional rhinoplasty. Apparently the nasal tip required additional support, such as in patients with a cleft lip nasal deformity or if significant change in nostril configuration was performed.
You should speak with your operating surgeon as postoperative care protocols differ from practice to practice.
