I'm a 42 year old woman. Over the past few years I have noticed these deepening smile lines around my mouth, especially on the left side. I've previously had voluma filler for my cheekbones 3 times (over a period of 11 years, the last being in 2017), and I am hesitant to get any more as I am concerned about longevity and possibly adding more sagging to the face. Is a mini facelift my only option here to address these lines? It doesn't seem bad enough to get surgery, even if it is a relatively minor procedure.

You’re not crazy for hesitating about more filler, and no, a mini facelift is not the only way to improve these lines.
From your photos, the “smile lines” look like a mix of nasolabial fold + early volume shift (more on one side, which is extremely common from natural facial asymmetry and how you animate).
Best Options Before Surgery
Midface support (not heavy filler): A small, well-placed amount of filler or fat grafting higher in the cheek can reduce the fold without “weighing down” the lower face. Overfilling the fold itself usually looks puffy.
Skin quality treatments: If texture is contributing, resurfacing (laser/peels) can soften lines, though it won’t “lift.”
PDO threads / RF tightening: can give mild improvement for some, but results are modest and temporary.
When a Mini Facelift Makes Sense
A mini/lower facelift is most helpful when the issue is tissue descent/jowling, not just a fold. At 42, if you don’t have much jowling, surgery may be more than you need right now.
What I’d Recommend
Schedule a consultation with a qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon or facial plastic surgeon and ask them to evaluate:
Is this primarily volume loss, descent, or skin quality?
Would small-volume midface support (or fat grafting) give a natural improvement?
Are you a true mini-lift candidate, or better treated non-surgically for now?
You likely have several reasonable options before committing to surgery.
