Indent in nose post-rhinoplasty

Question

8 months post-op I have a dent at the bridge of my nose where the bump was shaved down. It is visible to the eye. I also still have a slight bump on the side of the bridge. Surgeon has told me this occurred post op when we were trying to fix an issue with the cartilage moving out of place through massaging. They have agreed to fix it using a closed approach by shaving down the residual bump and using the bone dust to fill the dent at the bridge. Will this work?

Please consider re-asking your question with a photo that shows your indentation. We have had great success in permanently feeling nasal indentations that can occur after rhinoplasty surgery. We prefer to use silicon 1000, a safe and permanent soft tissue filler. Thank you. Sincerely, Dr. Joseph

Hello and thank you for your question. You likely have very thin dorsal skin and this strategy will likely not work well. When simply rasping the dorsum in this situation, it will usually look good for 1 to 2 months, and then start to show greater signs of contour irregularities and get even worse. Often times what is needed is to rasp and then place a fascial soft onlay graft to prevent this from happening in the future. With good surgical technique, you could have an outstanding result. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified rhinoplasty surgeon who can evaluate you in person.

There’s no yes or no answer to your question.
It will work if it’s done correctly and it will not work if not done correctly.
