Filler or revision for chin implant that looks very square & obvious? (Photo)

Hi there I had a chin implant placed abroad over 4 months ago but it is very square and looks quite obvious, especially when I smile. I’ve tried to contact my surgeon but because I had the procedure done abroad it’s proven very difficult. He has taken a look at pics and says he sees nothing wrong but that he can remove the implant if I wish .I also have a scar on the side of my chin that doesn’t seem as though it should have been necessary. Is it best to have it removed or go for filler to help?

Dermal fillers can augment the appearance of your chin for a short-term solution, but if you’re not satisfied with the implant, removal may be the best solution. If you received a silicone implant, removing it is considered a simple procedure.

I recommend scheduling an in-person consultation with an experienced, board-certified facial plastic surgeon. They will be able to review your surgical history, discuss your concerns with you, and determine the best way to move forward.

Have you heard of a genioplasty? This procedure augments the chin without the need for an implant (in your case, we would remove it). By using a segment of your chin, we are able to move the chin into almost any position you would like, while giving natural-looking results. One of the many issues with implants, is that they stick out and tend to give a square-like appearance because they do not blend as well into the jawline. With a genioplasty, the two parts would fit together seamlessly. This also gives the added benefit of adding length and contour to your jawline. Although the recovery is a little larger from a genioplasty, the results are better and will last you the rest of your life.

In the photo you are smiling so I can give only limited advice. It is difficult to treat and correct the face in animation. Multiple photos including non-smiling and profile photos would be helpful. Several considerations would be filler, a custom chin implant or sliding genioplasty. Sometimes changing the style of the implant is helpful.

Based on this image, it seems that your implant is too projected. Implant with less projection and wider, to contour lower jaw flow, would be more appropriate in my opinion. Good luck.

I hope this message finds you well. Based on your description, it seems the scar on the side of your chin might be unusual. If your chin implant was performed using the extraoral method, which seems likely, the scar should be fine and discreet, blending into the crease-fold beneath your chin.
Additionally, it appears that you might have a "button" type of generic implant. If the implant's tails are too short, this could be causing the abrupt effect you've noticed.
