Hello. Just wondering if there is a problem with either having a facial fat transfer or juvederm fillers if you take steroids (for an autoimmune disorder)? Asking because I think steroids can change the shape of your face sometimes. Thank you.

Taking anti-inflammatory steroids for long periods of time can cause what is called a cushingoid appearance with excess facial fat fullness.

If that’s the case then it may be an issue doing facial fat transfer. I suggest you have a few consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeons to see what they think and also talk to the doctor prescribing your steroids.

Long-term anti-inflammatory stereouse can be detrimental and cause pretty bad side effects while at the same time the steroids lose to ability to help because the adrenals compensate by naturally producing less cortisol.

Anti-inflammatory steroids are typically a better medication to use for short periods of time.

For some conditions there appears to be no option and long-term steroid use is certainly prescribed regularly buy lots of physicians.
