How safe is Alarplasty? What is the chance of infection? Can this be treated with antibiotics? I am considering getting Alarplasty to fix my wide nose. How safe is the procedure?

It is normal that nose opens more when you are smiling due to attachment of muscles to the allar base. There is also muscle that attaches to the columella of the nose and pulls tip down when smiling. This one can be detached during rhinoplasty or it can be procedure for itself. Hope this helps.

Yes, the alar base excision can be reversed using either internal flaps or a composite ear graft. Because of the notching noted at the site of excision, you would probably be a better candidate for the composite graft approach.
