Can kenalog injection help post tummy tuck soreness ? (Photo)

Most likely, you are correct in thinking that it has something to do with scar tissue. These can be areas where there are sutures which were placed, which may be dissolvable, or permanent. Regardless, scar conform around these areas, and it is near where certain nerve branches can exit the muscle. Sometimes this scar can pull or irritate these small nerve branches.Yes, steroid injections may help, and Kenalog is a certain form of steroid. However, there are potential downsides to Keno log or any other steroid. Steroids can melt fat where they are injected thereby causing a small depression. They can also cause the area to lighten and appear white next to the surrounding skin. If injected properly, this is unlikely, though always a possibility. As such, I would recommend an aggressive massage regimen prior to trying a steroid. As well, massage can be combined with certain forms of ultrasound to help break up scar. Some surgeons may use progressive tension sutures in these areas.  Over time sometimes there can be scar tissue.  Massage would be the first line of treatment.  A dilute kenalog may also help but there are risks you should discuss with your surgeon first.  Fat necrosis would be one of them.  Good luck.

Thank you for the question and photos.  The pain that you have described is a little unusual this far out after a tummy tuck.  A pseudo-bursa may cause tightness and some pain on mobility.  If this is the case removal of the pseuso-bursa would be the answer for symptom relief.  I am not sure how a steroid injection would help.  We do know that there are some negative effects of steroid injection including fat and muscle atrophy.  I would caution you against steroid injection unless a specific reason can be found and pinpointed that would benefit from such an injection.All the best,Dr. Remus Repta
