I have nipple piercings now and want to get my boobs done. Will I need to get them re-pierced after?

Hi jlazaro, I understand your concern. There is not standard protocol when it comes to nipple piercings during breast augmentation surgery. You should speak with your plastic surgeon and discuss your concerns. Nipple piercings are not an issue. The jewelry is typically removed for the procedure and can be replaced soon after.  Discuss it with your surgeon. Best wishes.

Unless you are having nipple surgery, piercings are not an issue (even with periareolar incisions). Remove the jewelry before surgery, and put it back after surgery. Even if you wait a bit, the piercings won't heal shut! Best wishes! Dr. Tholen

Thank you for your question. Just like any other piercing, or piece of jewelry, you will need to remove your nipple piercing during your breast augmentation. You can take them out right before, and put then back in right after. Be sure to see a board certified plastic surgeon.

jlazaro.  I commonly perform breast augmentation on women with nipple piercings and my protocol is to remove the piercings right before surgery, and then put them back in while the patient is still in recovery, right after surgery. This procedure works well. Be certain to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon. Good luck.

This is generally not a problem at all.  I have my patients remove them immediately prior to surgery, we clean them extensively, and then replace them at the end of the surgery.  This works very well and does not cause any issues.  The best thing to do is to come for a few consultations with board certified plastic surgeons and see what will work best for you.  I hope this helps.

I take out the piercings (don’t want to risk a burn when we use electric cautery) and put them back before we wake the patient up. Good luck.

This is usually not a problem.  I have patients remove the piercings before surgery and they can be replaced immediately after surgery.  Some patients will get temporary plastic piercings so there is no metal in place during surgery.  Make sure your Plastic Surgeon is aware of the piercings before your initial examination so you can discuss the options with them.
