My face is sore after Sculptra injections today and a little painful to touch. Can I wait until tomorrow to start massaging?

It is normal to experience some soreness a day or so after having Sculptra injections.  With the higher amounts of reconstitution fluid (>8cc) that it sounds like was used, it will lower the risk of any issues.  As suggested by the company, the "massage protocol" is 5-5-5.  5 times a day for 5 minutes each time for 5 days.  The massage helps to bring down the swelling and distribute the product.  Due to the soreness, it would be fine to delay massaging for a day or so, but I would recommend it when you can resume.  I love this product and using the best recommendations like higher reconstitution volumes and massaging will improve the results.

It is quite alright to wait until tomorrow to massage the Sculptra. Your outcome should not be affected at all. There is evidence to show that massaging does decrease the nodularity of Sculptra somewhat, but most people will do fine without massage. I encourage all my patients to massage, starting the day after the injection.

It's normal to be sore after a Sculptra injecting session. It sounds like your physician was very conscientious about his technique, but most patients have some soreness even with a gentle physician. Waiting until the next day to begin your massaging should be fine, but don't skip the massaging or delay more than the first 24 hours. Massaging helps to keep the Sculptra well distributed in the tissue as your body begins to react to its presence. Well distributed Sculptra means well distributed collagen, which is what we want. I absolutely love Sculptra. It's a great product that has a unique role to play in our aesthetic treatment options. 

Thank you for your question. With the higher dilution techniques that are used today you will probably be fine waiting until tomorrow to massage. I recommend to my patients that they massage the areas that were injected in a circular fashion. Galderma (manufacturer of Sculptra) recommends that patients massage the areas 5 times per day for 5 minutes for 5 days. This is the recommendation that I give to my patients. sculptra injections can leave the area slightly sore, and in my experience, the soreness can last up to a week.  I believe that massaging actually helps with the soreness, but if you are very tender to the touch, waiting a day to massage dhould be ok with dilute sculptra.
