Do I have to get my second Kybella treatment six weeks after the first? Or can I wait a few months between treatments?

I usually recommend waiting at least 6-8 weeks after the first treatment for swelling to go down so that an appropriate assessment can be made as to how many vials are needed for the second treatment. You do not negate the affects.  Once the fat is destroyed it’s gone.  But understand that all adipose tissue is not destroyed and thus if you put on weight, the exsisting adipose tissue may get bigger.    

I would recommend you wait six weeks after your first kybella and follow it up after that, but you can wait longer if you want. 

Dear gwooden,Kybella typically takes 3 to 5 treatments to work. This is why I've stopped carrying Kybella in my office.  I recommend neck liposuction more often then any injectable procedure for the neck now. It provides superior results gives me more control over the area than any injectable.  It also costs about the same as what you paid for your first kybella session. The liposuction can be done under local while awake in the office and recovery is about the same as kybella.Daniel Barrett, MD

In my opinion, it would be fine to have a second Kybella treatment anytime after 6 weeks.  Waiting a longer period of time should not affect your ultimate results.  

Waiting longer than the recommended 6-8 weeks after your first treatment will not effect the results of your future treatments! Definitely wait for a time when you are okay with having some swelling with a risk of bruising!

The thought of 6-8 weeks is so that swelling will resolve prior to your next treatment. There is no medical reason you cannot wait as long as you want

This is a great question, lots of people ask similar questions about timing with kybella. I recommend waiting at least 6 weeks between treatments, to allow a lot of the swelling to reduce away. Waiting 2 months between treatments won't negate any of the treatment, and the extra time will help your injector identify uneven areas that weren't fully treated. As long as you don't mind taking time for the treatments to work, you could space them out. Even 3 months doesn't seem like too long to wait between sessions, if you are comfortable with that time frame.

Hello there! I do not think spacing out your treatments will have any affect on your treatment and results. There is nothing that requires this be done every six weeks to guarantee certain results. You will see results from each treatment no matter what. Good luck! Sarah RN BSN 

Thank you for your question.  I have patients wait 6-8 weeks between treatments, but if you want to wait longer, that is up to you.  The first treatment will kill fat, and that is permanent.  Waiting allows the injector to better identify remaining pockets of fat.
