Can you use Alphagan to treat drooping eyelids after dysport? (Photo)

Iopodine is most commonly prescribed for this purpose but alphagan also works on the same mechanism.  The reason we generally recommend Iopodine is historic.  That is what was originally used.  If the Alphagan is not effective, then it is also likely that the Iopodine will not be effective either.  In terms of how long the ptosis may last, if the drop is immediately effective, the it is very likely the dose you received into the levator muscle is small and the effect should resolve within a few weeks.  If the drop is not effective after a 7 day trial, then you received a much more significant dose of dysport into the levator.  Under this circumstance, the ptosis can last several months.  You will know when you are 4-6 weeks from resolution when the eye drops become effective.

You should be using Apraclonidine as a treatment for this and should see your injecting physician who knows how to take care of this complication.  Best, Dr. Emer.
