Hi I had a AFA 40 % chemical peel done and it caused flaking that fell of in the shower revealing extremely pink skin that has lasted 2 weeks now but seems like it is fading

I have seen patients not have any redness at all after light peels, and only have a pleasant "glow", while others have had redness that lasted for about a week or two. Deep peels can result in redness that lasts for a few weeks. It's important that you don't touch your face too much and avoid rubbing it when bathing. Just let the water fall over your head. Avoid sun exposure and stay moisturized.

Thank you for your question. The peel you had done sounds like a medium depth peel, the flaking is normal however it seems like you may have been rubbing or scrubbing your face to hard in the shower, when the skin is wet it is more fragile and can peel off more easily when it is not ready leaving you with "pink" skin. It does not sound like your provider did anything wrong I would recommend consulting with them about how to care for your skin. Keep it very well hydrated with aquaphor until it heals, after that you can use a hydroquinone to reduce the risk of discoloration. Make sure you are avoiding the sun and wearing sunscreen.
