Have you ever heard of Sculptra injections under scalp where facelift is performed to reduce labial folds?

I went for the first time for fillers to reduce my labial folds and sculptra was injected at my temples and under my scalp “where a face lift would be done” behind my ear up on my head. Did I just pay a lot for nothing or even harm?

Thank you for sharing your question.  Sculptra injections can be placed into the temples to improve hollowing but they are not typically carried behind the ear or into the scalp.  I would ask your injector the purpose of the injections to get the best advice.  Hope his helps.

First, be assured that Sculptra is often injected into the temple area to fill it out, as that is one of the places where we lose volume as we age. It is true that building up your temples might give you a mild lift that could be sufficient to improve your nasolabial folds (NLF). I don’t normally inject Sculptra in the hairline or behind the ear, but that too could give a subtle lift. 
It will take a month or two before you see the results of your Sculptra, as it is a collagen stimulator that relies on your body creating new, strong collagen to rejuvenate your skin. Normally 2 or 3 sessions of Sculptra are needed to build the result. Your doctor may add Sculptra in the nasolabial folds at your subsequent session. After building facial framework with Sculptra over a few sessions, sometimes a hyaluronic filler is then placed in the nasolabial folds or lips to finish off the look. Be sure to discuss this with your doctor.

When you say "labial" folds, I assume you mean nasolabial folds.  In general, I feel these are often improved by injecting Sculptra into the cheek area, above and to the side of the folds.  It is true that Sculptra can provide some lifting by adding volume, but normally, the farther distance you go to inject from the site you are trying to lift, the less effect there is.  It is difficult to give you advice about your particular treatment without seeing photographs of you or examining you.  I would discuss your concerns with the physician who treated you.

I don't think that the NLF's will benefit from injections in these areas. I know some people are injecting the scalp for lifting but I don't think there is much benefit in doing this.The preauricular area is often injected to pull things back and I agree with that but not the retroauricular area.

Hi lcudd, It would have great to see photos of you to see why your doctor decided to inject at the temples and under the scalp. The usual placement for nasolabial folds is adjacent to it. This way, as collagen is induced, it sort of pushes the deep lines, in effect diminishing it. As we age, we do lose volume on the temples and it wouldn't harm you.However, you need to be patient as the effect of Sculptra is slow. It's never as fast as Voluma,All the best, Justin Harper, M.D.
