I advise my patients to refrain from heavy physical activity for about three weeks following rhinoplasty. Having said that, I do encourage my patient to ambulate as much as they can if they are comfortable. I would suggest setting your treadmill to the pace of a very casual walk without running the risk of heart rate elevation or blood pressure increase in order to avoid the risk of increased swelling or bleeding.
That said, postoperative hemorrhages following rhinoplasty can come even with zero physical activity in approximately 1% of procedures. If you were our patient, I would suggest "strolling" without sweating or elevating your blood pressure. If you want to burn some calories, consider walking 2.5MPH. Hope this helps. Dr Joseph
Each surgeon has their own unique set of post operative instructions. It is best to discuss with your surgeon any specific activity restrictions for optimal healing.
You need to ask your doc. I have my patients avoid exertion for at least 3-4 weeks to minimize the risk of bleeding.
