17 days post-op tummy tuck incision burning/oozing (Photo)

Question

I had a tummy tuck 17 days ago. My steri strips are starting to fall off and my incision looks fantastic except for one small spot in the center. It burns and is oozing. Is this okay?

Drainage along your incision line needs to be evaluated by your surgeon. It is not uncommon to have some minor wound healing issues along your incision. The central part of the incision is the location where the wound tension is the greatest in the blood supply source is the most distant.  These areas need to be managed properly to ensure a good outcome. Any signs of infection need to be treated to avoid a worsening infection.  In most cases these areas heal very well if properly managed. It should not affect your long-term outcome. Thanks for the question. At this point of your post op the swelling is normal.To reduce it, I recommend you perform daily lymphatic drainage massage therapy over the abdomen and wear a postoperative girdle from thigh to the breasts.Kind regards,Dr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.-
