Abdominoplasty is not a weight loss operation. The average weight of the specimen is 2.5 kg. Abdominoplasty treats the skin excess and muscle weaknessof the abdomen, as well as any fat that is between the belly button and thepubic hairline. Liposuction treats only fat. It can be used to thinout the abdomen, but the skin must be in good condition with no excess, andthere should not be muscle weakness.
An important thing to understand is that for the majority of patient’s a tummy tuck should never be considered a weight loss procedure. A tummy tuck is usually performed to remove excess skin that diet and exercise will not remove. As such, the total weight removal with these procedures is often disappointingly low!Of course, there exists a group of patients who have large fatty aprons. Obviously, these patients do lose quite a significant amount of weight from the surgery, but these patients represent a very small minority. Furthermore, they are generally not doing the surgery for weight loss, but to reshape the abdomen and create a flatter abdominal contour and remove the functional and lifestyle problems associated with an overhanging fatty apron.
Hello Thank you for your question. It is very difficult to answer this as it really depends on how much excess skin and fat you have exclusively. Everyone is different in regards to their results. It would be best to have an in person consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. Best
Thanks for your question, but unfortunately the answer is that this varies widely from patient to patient. If you are overweight, your tummy may not be as flat after a tummy tuck, but your weight loss from the surgery will be larger. Likewise, if your only problem is loose skin, your change in weight and abdominal circumference will be limited. I would say that with my patients having a tummy tuck, the amount of tissue removed weighs anywhere from less than 1 lb (less than 1/2 kg) to 10 lbs (a little under 5 kg). I usually never measure abdominal circumference. Hope this helps, but an exam with a plastic surgeon will better answer your question. Best of luck!
Thank you for the question. As you can imagine, there is no "standard" number of inches or weight lost after surgery given that every patient who undergoes tummy tuck surgery is different. Factors that come into play when it comes to answering your question include: overall body type, degree of muscle separation and adequacy of repair (plication), type of tummy tuck surgery performed, amount of adipose tissue present, quantity/quality of life is such an surgery performed, post operative maintenance of diet/exercise program… My best suggestion: select your plastic surgeon carefully. Ask to see lots of examples of similar patients and evaluate their outcomes. Doing so you may be able to achieve a level of expectation that is realistic.Best wishes.

The issue is whether the thickness of fatty tissue is too great to safely perform a tummy tuck...undermining the skin up to the ribcage if the fatty layer is too thick can lead to significant healing problems, and of course a tummy tuck does not remove fat that is intraperitoneal or what is...
Thank you for your question.Spitting sutures, while not all that common, are not cause for alarm. What is happening here is your body sees the stitch as a foreign object and is trying to remove it by pushing it out. Keep your follow up appointments and be sure to let your surgeon know if you...
