Oops! Accidentally took Motrin too early after TT + Hernia surgery.

Thanks for your question. Don't despair. You will not have any untoward consequences from taking the Motrin. In fact, I start Toradol (IV form of ibuprofen) in the recovery room. I then have my patients begin taking Ibuprofen that same day. Ibuprofen does not cause bleeding, nor does it impair the bodies ability to stop bleeding. Best of Luck!

Thank you for your question.  At 10 days post operatively all is likely well from having taken Motrin, especially if there has not been any appreciable change in your tummy tuck result.  Hope this helps.

There is not much you can do now except be careful with your physical activity.  The problem with motrin is IF you cause something to bleed it won't stop as well.  So DON'T cause bleeding by taking it very easy.  Then you should be fine.

You should check with your surgeon but, 10 days after surgery, you should be able to transition from narcotic pain meds to NSAIDS without concern.  The concern is always that NSAIDS will increase the risk of bleeding, however by 10 days cut blood vessels should be sealed and healing.  Some research says with meticulously done surgery, patients can start on NSAIDS, immediately after surgery, so you should be fine, but to be sure see your surgeon. 

To make sure you are okay it is best to talk this over with your surgeon right away. After 10 day there is not a lot of risk of bleeding but still it is good to inform him. Best of luck

Hello and thank you for the question. Not only do you not need to worry but for many surgeons this is the drug of choice post surgery often in combination with a narcotic which allows you to use less of the narcotic and come off of it faster and more easily.Peter Fisher M.D.
