Will wearing glasses cause a bump on my nose after Rhinoplasty?

Thank you for sharing your question.  In my practice, I advise my patients to wait 6 weeks post rhinoplasty before wearing eye glasses and sunglasses. This is to prevent any disruption of the healing process and to allow for a nice silhouette of the nasal dorsum. You can certainly wear contacts in the meantime to help with your vision while waiting for medical clearance from your surgeon to resume use of eyeglasses. At 6 months post op you can safely wear glasses. Your nose will not be effected. RegardsDr. Janjua

I am a person who believes almost anything is possible - the difference is the probability of the particular event occurring.  I have performed a considerable number of rhinoplasties - at times upward of 150 procedures in a year.  I have always recommend that patients refrain from wearing glasses for at least 6 weeks after the procedure.  The concern has been that they may depress their not yet healed nasal bones.  I have seen this happen.  The risk that they might induce another "bump" on their nose by wearing their glasses has not been a common concern. It is a lesser probability situation - but as I stated almost anything is possible.My best advice for you is to follow the recommendations of your surgeon.  He knows best about your situation.Be well and best regards,Fred G. After 3 months it is very unlikely wearing glasses could make any different in most situations.

I usually allow my patients to wear glasses by about 6 weeks.  Always best to review with your surgeon his preference.
