Hiya. I had a chin augmentation 2 years ago. Doctor used 8mm implant. But I m not 100 percent happy with the results. I want a 12mm implant. I contacted the same doctor he said there is more risk with a bigger implant ( 12mm). Instead he said he can use collagen filler injection approx 2mm of it to get a projection of about 4mm and it will last for 2 years. Although I trust his judgement , to some extent, but I just can't buy this 4mm projection that will last for 2 years theory Please guide me.

If you would like more projection after a chin implant you have 2 options:1)  Get a larger implant2)  Place filler on top of the implantPlacing a larger implant will create a permanent solution.  It is rather easy and quick procedure to place a larger implant if the implant is made of silicone.  If you have a Gortex or other type of implant, I would be more difficult to place a larger implant.  Temporary fillers can be placed to increase projection.  There is a small risk that fillers could introduce bacteria into the area of the implant and cause an infection.  You have to make sure that sterile technique is used.I hope this helps.

I think that fillers work very nicely for subtle chin augmentation. However, given your history of having a relatively large chin implant placed previously it might be a stretch to expect 4mm of additional augmentation from an injectable filler. The fillers that we currently have available just aren't robust enough to provide that much projection. More subtle enhancement should be possible with fillers. I prefer Radiesse or Voluma in this area though treatment with either filler is considered "off label" and requires a highly experienced physician injector. It is hard to tell from your photo what can be done, but fillers like Radiesse and Sculptra work great on the chin.  If you want something more permanent, Artefill can be performed safely as well, with the proper injector.  Best, Dr. Emer.

You can either remove your existing chin implant and replace with a larger one, or put a filler overtop of the implant. The filler will likely last approximately 1 year in this location, sometimes longer.

Hello,as was previously said the best way to increase your chin projection by 4 mm would be to replace your implant for a larger size. Sometimes there are soft tissue constraints at the time of your first procedure which limit the implant size which can be implanted. Now that the soft tissue has been expanded it is possible to use a larger implant which would not have been possible at your first procedure. Fillers will cause subtle increases in size and projection but will not produce the amount of projection which you desire at this time.
