Answer: FUE and Sports Activities Anytime someone has a hair transplant, or any surgery for that matter, they should always refer to their own doctor for questions regarding their post-operative activities. Your doctor knows your case best!In general, after undergoing an FUE hair transplant surgery, patients can return to a normal active lifestyle within a matter of days. This is one of the benefits of follicular unit extraction surgery in that the wounds from the extractions are so small that they are healed and nearly invisible within a week. This is also about the amount of time it takes for the transplanted hairs to be fully anchored in the recipient scalp. Full contact sports should wait about two weeks but activities such as cricket, baseball, basketball, tennis etc are usually fine after seven to ten days. Don't take my advice alone. Remember, check with YOUR doctor to make sure you don't breach his or her own specific post-operative instructions for you. Good luck and have fun!

Answer: Sport after FUE surgery One of the benefits of FUE is the lack of a requirement for stitches. For this reason most doctors would suggest exercise is fine from 10-14 days after surgery. I do tend to ask patients to avoid excessive sweating or saunas for the first 3 weeks.

Answer: It varies of course I tell my patients to wait about two weeks. By then the grafts are very well healed and impossible to pull out or damage, even with a direct hit. My restriction for my patients as far as sports really isn't based on trauma, but sweat. Sweat is probably the biggest enemy of a transplant early on as the incision sites are still a bit porous and the sweat may act as a "culture medium" for bacteria growth. But by two weeks everything should be healed and dry. If not, there is something up and you need to see your doctor ASAP. Dr. FellerGreat Neck, NY
