Can I cut the knot off my stitches?

Question

the knots at the end of my stitches after my breast implants are annoying and my doctor told me it will fall off in a month or 2 but I am annoyed and I feel like cutting them myself but I am not sure if this can be done. What will happen if I cut them myself?

Here at Stillwater Plastic Surgery we have had patients with the same concern.  The answer to your question depends on the type of suture & suturing technique that was used during your procedure.  We always recommend following your surgeons post operative care instructions since they are the practice caring for you.

Depending on the type of suturing your surgeon used the knot may be securing the suture and if you cut it, may lead to widening of your scar. Address the issue again with your surgeon and tell them how much it is bothering you.  Some surgeons including myself do not tie knots at then ends of superficial sutures to help avoid this issue. Short and simple-no.You are not providing enough information such as time from surgery and type of suture.Just called your surgeon's office and I am certain they will fit you in to get those annoying sutures removed.Good luck
