QUESTIONS ANSWERED

I am looking for a Cleft Lip and Palate doctor for a toddler.

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
I am sorry to hear you bad experience with the previous surgeon you meet.   What is important for your son is not only a good board certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience in cleft but also a solid Cleft Team where he will be able to follow through from youth through adulthood.

Since you are from the Maryland area- there is the Johns Hopkins team as well as multiple others in the DC area.

Look at the surgeons'a credential but also at the Team.

Hope this helps

What is the next surgery for my cleft lip and palate?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Thank you for your question.
it appears to me that you need a comprehensive evaluation by a plastic surgeon with additional qualification in craniofacial surgery.

Clearly difficult to make a treatment plan without examining you.  Typically, orthodontic alignment of you teeth will precede surgery.  The alveolar bone graft will be done first, followed by the corrective jaw surgery.

In certain situations, they both can be performed at the same time,

good luck

Is pain under cheek implant 6 weeks after surgery, normal?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Thank you for your question. I would consider it unusual to have pain 6 weeks after placement of malar implant.  You are surely doing the right thing by following up with your surgeon.

Hopefully this will resolve uneventfully for you.

Good luck!

Open hole a T incision in breast. Could I go ahead and take out stitches now to start closing it up? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
I would not that a wound dehiscence at this location is common.  It is not unusual but sure not common.
i am not quite sure it is a good idea for you to remove sutures and initiate local wound care without appropriate supervision. A small opening may hide a much larger area opening underneath the skin.
i would recommend you see a local plastic surgeon soon to make sure you take the appropriate measures.

Good luck

Dental work after mommy makeover

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
I am sorry to hear about your misfortune.  If indeed the tooth is not salvageable, I would get it extracted prior to your mommy make over.  That would insure your are confortable and free of potential infection.
Then proceed with your plastic surgery.  If you decide to have a bridge fabricated or to get a dental implant  soon after your surgery and you underwent breast implant placement, I surely would recommend prophylactic antibiotic.

Good luck.

I'm 14, male and really self conscious of my nose and my lips. I was born with a cleft lip. What are my options? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Thank you for your question.  Being a 14 yo male, the growth of your face is not quite complete.  I would not rush into an additional procedure until growth is completed - typically 18 yo in males.
this being said, I do see room for improvement both in your nasal and lip esthetics.  I would recommend you consult with a plastic surgeon with training in craniofacial surgery to ensure optimal results.
Good luck!

25 yr old looking for reconstructive surgery for a cleft lip and palate. Can anything be done? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Thanks for your question.  Looking at the pictures you provided, there is some room for improvement.  Before comitting to laser treatment, I would consult with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who is active on a Cleft & Craniofacial Team.  Once you verbalise your concern, he/she will be able to guide you better.
Good luck

Could leakage of a saline and capsule implant cause a skin rash?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
First, it is exceedingly rare to have a slow leaking saline implant.  If indeed there is a leak- complete deflation of the implant will occur relatively quickly.
i would have your rash evaluated by a dermatologist and I do not believe it has anything to do with your implant.

I have tightness and excess scar tissue on one cheek implant. Any suggestions?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
It seems that you do have the answer to your question.  Whenever a foreign material is inserte in the human body, a capsule develop.  This is mainly discussed in breast implants but also occurs in other types of
implants including cheek implants.  You may be experiencing excessive fibrous tissue around the implant in response to the foreign body and also because of the post operative seroma.
Clearly you need to be evaluated by a board certified Plastic Surgeon so that this can be addressed appropriately.

Good luck.
