I am 2 days into a TT and the top of my thighs (either side of the vagina) is bruised and swollen - is this normal?

Congratulations on your recent surgery.  Bruising and swelling is very possible in the areas you describe after a Tummy Tuck procedure.  Bruising will appear over the next several days and it appears below the surgical area as gravity happens.  Good circulation will assist your body in removing the bruising and swelling that occurs after surgery.  Any concern you have should be discussed with your Plastic surgeon.  Good luck.

Thank you for your question. You should expect to have swelling for three to six months following tummy tuck surgery. Use of a properly fitted compression garment will help decrease the length and severity of the post-operative swelling. As the swelling decreases, the contour of your abdomen, flanks, and hips will dramatically improve. Please follow your plastic surgeons specific advice regarding your level of physical activity. Congratulations on your tummy tuck.  The recovery from a tummy tuck can be quite different from one patient to the next.  The variables can include: extent of surgery (mini, full, liposuction, muscle repair etc), preoperative health and fitness, body mass index.  It is very common to have focal areas of bruising and swelling especially in the areas described.  The Mons (fat pad above the vagina) is often suctioned and/or reduced in order to balance with the shape of the new abdomen.  The binder and forces of gravity can can bruising to travel towards the legs and ankles.  However, asymmetrical swelling of the thighs/calfs/ankles should be evaluated in order to rule out a thrombosis.  Ultimately, call your plastic surgeons office.  They will direct you with what is normal or not given the procedure performed on you. good luck and thank you again

Thank you for your question. The short answer is yes, swelling of the mons above the vagina and also into the thIghs can be normal after a tummy tuck. This is due to the blood and fluid settling where gravity takes it. 
Swelling and bruising that are not normal would be seen if the swelling and bruising were getting worse and more painful placing tension on your incisions lines. Or sometimes you have significant asymmetry to occur between the sides.  This could be a sign of blood or fluid.  If this were to occur you would need to call your plastic surgeon to be evaluated. 

Hello dear!!Thanks for the question. Certainly it's normal to be very swollen and bruised all over. Remember that your body takes approximately 6 months to get back to normal, so relax and be patient until you can see the real results.Good luck :)

Swelling and bruising of the upper thighs and up to and including the vagina is very possible after a tummy tuck. If you had liposuction done at the same time there's even a greater chance of it occurring. The bottom line is that it's of no importance and will resolve completely with time, usually a couple of weeks.The only time one could be more concerned would be if the swelling was only on one side. The same can be said for swelling of one foot or one lower leg. Swelling on both sides is normal.
