I have extreme ingrown hairs on my pubic area. Would laser treatment be best? (Photos)

I have extreme ingrown hairs in my pubic area and bikini line. I do not shave at all and I still get them. My hair is extremely course down there and is always poking me. It's so painful They get infected and once they heel they turn into keloids and leave scars. It looks disgusting. Where is the best place to go to get lasering done in that specific area?Preferably Ann arbor or the metro Detroit area.

This looks like the only cause is ingrown hairs but you should also talk to a dermatologist to rule out a condition called hidradenitis suppurativa which occurs when sweat glands get plugged and inflamed.  Can lead to the same issue you are having in the same area.  Good luck.Best, Payman Kosari, MD, FAAD

Laser hair removal will help with if not completely correct the problem you are having with ingrown hair.  What you need to know about laser hair removal is that you will have to shave prior to your apt; preferably the morning before you go. You may ask them for a topical steroid to apply for the irritation that you may get for a few days after shaving before the hair falls out.  It takes multiple sessions to get complete resolution but you will see that the hair grows back less course and more sparse with each treatment.  The best place to go is a dermatology office that specializes in laser treatments and cosmetic procedures. You may ask them what laser they have; The Lumenis Light Sheer Duet or Infinity are in my opinion the best and least painful.Good luck! Dr. Quenby Erickson
