Thank you for your question. I suggest you follow up with your provider. Always see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon or Dermatologist. Best of luck.
It can take several weeks for laser results to settle. I recommend following up with your cosmetic dermatologist for after care. I recommend Silagen + Bioshield and PDT therapy to promote healing. I always combine IPL with microneedling/prp to improve outcomes. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer
Swelling is fairly typical after an IPL treatment. We recommend applying ice to the area for 5 minutes after treatment, then 1-2 more times through out the day (5 minutes at a time). Antihistamines, and arnica Montana tables can also help to prevent and alleviate swelling. Take 2 sublingual arnica tablets before treatment, and 10 mg of Loratadine (generic Claritin) before treatment. In cases where the patient suffers severe swelling we may give 10 mg of Prednisone for 1-2 days after treatment.
Swelling is usually worse in the morning, so it can help to sleep with head elevated. Also antihistamines can help reduce the swelling, I recommend non sedating antihistamine, Zyrtec or Claritin, during the day and Benadryl at night.
Hi, thank you so much for posting! I actually just had an IPL 3 days ago, we used the 1540 non ablative hand piece on me and I am still swollen like a chipmunk. A few tricks to help are icing it, 10 mins on, 10 off a few times per day, avoid salt and drink lots of water. Sleep on your back and with extra pillows, as the day goes on you will notice swelling goes down but its the worse in the AM, if you sleep with extra pillows under your head you dont give gravity the chance to accumulate the fluid. Give it a few days, the swelling will calm and you will see the gorgeous glow :)
