Can scars be excised with breast reduction techniques like an anchor or wise and nipple redone? (Photo)

Question

Original implant after tissue expander 340cc style 40, exchanged for 240cc style 10, exchanged for 260cc style 20, exchanged for 270cc style 10 with z-plasty to improve the scar. The scars are the predominate feature of this reconstruction and have begun to adhere to the muscle. I wonder if removing the implant and starting over somehow is an option.

Thank you for you question.Scars will fade over time, and become less noticeable. The scar can be excised, along with the nipple, but then there will be loss of available skin for the breast mound, and tissue expansion may be needed, and the entire process starts over. A more suitable option is allowing the scar to mature and fade over time, and fat grafting to separate the muscle from the dermis.Regards,Manish C. Champaneria, MD

Scars in general tend to lighten and fade with time. This can vary but in many cases can take 1 year or more. Best of luck.

How mature(old) are these scars in the picture?They should improve over time..........one to two years.I would suggest fat grafting to improve scar quality as well as limiting adherence of the scar to the underlying muscle.Hope this helps

After mastectomy there is less skin. To remove more in any pattern is not wise unless it is replaced with a lat doors flap. This is a good option and adds better tissue to cover an implant.The nipple and scar will likely be improved. In experienced hands this can give an excellent long term result.
