Can I get a BBL with low platelets?

Question

I recently did a trial run on my labs everything is perfect except my platelets. I had a BA/BL in Aug with low platelets. 5 months later I want a BBL but my platelets are still low. My PT/IR time are perfect, will I be able to get an BBL?

A normal platelet count ranges from 150,000 to 350,000. If the number of platelets is too low, excessive bleeding can occur. Discuss your diet and vitamins with your PCP for guidance on how to raise the count and to determine the reason for it. You may want to also ask for a referral to a hematologist for clearance before having the BBL.

it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. Generally speaking, you should be healthy prior to surgery and your platelet level should be normal. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

You didn’t mention your platelet count. If it’s on the low side of normal than most plastic surgeons are probably fine doing elective surgery if it’s significant below normal showing real thrombocytopenia then they may want you to get clearance from a hematologist.

I suggest first discussing with your primary care doctor and ask that person to refer you to hematologist if they think it’s of concern. Secondly discuss this during consultations with board-certified plastic surgeons for your upcoming BBL.
