Can I get a chemical peel if I have Crohn's Disease?

The immunosuppressive drugs used for autoimmune disorders can make you more susceptible to infection.  The risk of infection after a light or medium-depth peel is low, but it may make sense to treat you prophylactically with an anti-viral and an antibiotic to be safe.  The immunosuppressive drugs should not have any affect on your body's ability to heal as long as you are otherwise healthy.  Therefore, I think it would be safe for you to proceed with a light or medium chemical peel.

Hey there,Autoimmune disease is a relative contraindication for a chemical peel. The risk of infection, scarring and delayed wound healing is high if you are on immunosuppressive drugs. Having said that, you can undergo a superficial rejuvenating peel during the remission phase of crohn's under the supervision of a board-certified physician.Hope this helps.

Light and medium peels should have no systemic effect on the body.
