Follow-up question: Why do I have this white indented patch after Botox? (Photo)

Question

At first I thought maybe it was swelling but it actually looks a little indented now. It’s white. I had Botox 2 1/2 weeks ago. She injected a lot in that area with a ton of saline, more saline dilution than I’d ever seen before. There was bruise at first but that is now gone. I do have a follow-up scheduled with a different provider to get this issue looked at. Do you think it will get better as the Botox wears off? What is going on?

This type of discoloration may be due to trauma to the skin during the injection. I would suspect it will subside over time without intervention. If it doesn’t, I would schedule an appointment with a board-certified dermatologist who can assess you in person and determine whether additional treatment is necessary. It is likely the spot will subside without intervention. Thank you for your question and photo.  Although bruising is a risk of an injectable treatment, a white patch is not usually seen with injectables. If this patch is related to the trauma and bruising that happened, it is likely that it will resolve on its own within the next few weeks. However, if this is not resolving, I suggest that you see a board certified dermatologist. Some skin infections like Tinea Versicolor present as a white patch.

Thanks for your question.  That is unusual, and not something I have seen before.  Theoretically, the trauma from the injection itself could always lead to decreased or increased pigment in the treated area.  If this persists or worsens you should see a local board certified dermatologist for further evaluation.
