I noticed in photos since I was a child that when I smile big, my right cheek crinkles like an accordion whereas my left cheek is normal with only the nasolabial fold creasing during a large smile. Can I get a micro dose of Botox in my right cheek so that it doesn’t accordion like that or would I risk my smile too much? If so, how many units would be safe?

Answer: Can one get Botox to soften an overactive muscle in the cheek?
Some patients experience a headache or tightness to the forehead after Botox injections which typically resolves after a week or so. It is unusual to have the intense pain in the temples that you describe. I would encourage you to visit with your injector for an evaluation.
If Botox is not an option for you, Dysport or Xeomin are the next options. I suggest dermarolling at home to give the skin Botox-like effects with at-home treatment. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer
The wrinkle you are seeing is likely from the surrounding area being smoothed by the Botox. It should gradually return to normal as the effects of the Botox wear off. Typically this takes 3 to 4 months.
