Can I get a liposuction while being diagnosed with secondary hypothyroidism and Hashimoto thyroiditis?

Hello, I am a 21 years old woman. And just got diagnosed with secondary hypothyroidism and Hashimoto thyroiditis. It's been now 3 months since I've been thinking about having a liposuction and a Brazilian but lift, so I went and got a blood work done, to know if everything was alright but sadly that's the result I got today... Can you please enlighten me on this? Can I still go under the procedure?

Once your thyroid is under control and your levels are normal, then yes, it should be safe for you to get liposuction. Make sure that your endocrinologist signs off on the procedure and speaks with your surgeon so everyone is on the same page. Best, Dr. Nazarian

Sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis.  Fortunately this is an extremely common - and easily managed disorder.  With daily medication and periodic monitoring of blood levels, your thyroid function can be essentially restored to normal.  I suggest waiting until your levels have been appropriately controlled with your medicated as instructed by your primary care physician.  At that point, you would absolutely be a candidate for surgery!  Obviously it is important to discuss this with your surgeon as well as primary care physician.

Thank you for the question. As long as your thyroid disease is being managed appropriately, keeping your thyroid hormone levels within normal range, you will remain a good surgical candidate. I would also ask for a surgical clearance from your endocrinologist.

The diagnosis of secondary hypothyroidism and Hashimoto thyroiditis it is not a contraindication to have  liposuction and  Brazilianbuttlift provided that it is being treated and controlled. You need to first get your thyroid condition under control.Once your thyroid levels are normal you should wait a significant amount of time before considering body contouring procedures.Perhaps six months or so. Correcting your thyroid levels may lead to weight change specifically weight loss. Once your thyroid levels are corrected you should be able to have cosmetic surgery.You may need to get medical clearance from your primary care doctor or endocrinologist. I see no reason why you could not have a consultation to get more information about the procedure.From there your plastic surgeon can discuss risks and benefits and a reasonable timeframe with you and your other doctors.Best,Mats Hagstrom M.D.

Having liposuction with your thyroid disease should be OK but not until your thyroid levels are normal and you are cleared for surgery by your endocrinologist.
