I gained weight after lipo: if I lose the weight I gained will my body return to the original post-Lipo result?

Question

I had liposuction done on my flanks in May of 2018. I’m 20 y/o , 5’10” and was 137 lbs at the time of the procedure. It is now late February of 2019, and I’m around 145 pounds. Months after the procedure, I noticed that my body looked asymmetrical and odd lumps appeared around the treated areas. Is this a result of the weight gain?Could it still be swelling? My shape was much more desirable a couple months after the procedure. If I lose the weight, will I return to a more desirable shape again?

At this stage it is probably not swelling but weight gain. If you lose the weight, you should go back to how you looked before the gain. Good luck.

your surgery was 10 months ago so it is unlikely that your problem is swelling. If you loose some weight, there is a chance that your results will improve. If you are not satisfied with your results, I suggest you to discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon.

Thanks for the question and provided information as well.
After liposuction, the areas treated are not likely to regain fatty fullness, as many fat cells have been removed. These areas have reduced fat storage capacity.
However, if weight gain occurs, the fat will be stored in areas that have not been liposuctioned. This is why you should try to eat healthy and exercise on a regular basis, so you can maintain the results long term. You should get your results back after loosing the extra pounds.

Thank you for your question, since you are 6 months’ post-op it can likely be swelling, each patient’s recovery time varies. However, losing those extra pounds can help you reach your ideal body goals.

Being this far out from surgery it is most likely just from weight gain and not swelling from the procedure. If you lose the weight your body should return to its original post Liposuction results.

Yeah probably lost a few pounds from the fat removed so your total weight gain is probably just over 10 pounds. Your results should be final at this point. I suggest trying to lose  enough weight to get below your pre-procedure weight. Considering that was removed to be at your pre-procedure weight you should probably weigh in at around  134lbsBest, Mats Hagstrom M.D.

it is mostly likely from weight gain. it is definitely not still swelling since it has been more than 6 months since your liposuction. if you lose those extra pounds, you will likely return to normal. If not, you could do Smartlipo to contour those larger areas.david berman md

The small weight gain should not affect your result.  You could be experiencing swelling, and you could notice changes over several months.  Follow up with your surgeon so he or she can check your progress.
