Will Emsculpt ever be covered by insurance to help my scoliosis by building my core?

I have scoliosis which causes me to suffer with back pain and poor posture. The only treatment I can do is workout my core. It is an ongoing effort and not sustainable. Emsculpt could help me build a stronger core more rapidly and consistently. I believe this could help me heal. Will insurance ever cover Emsculpt for this reason? How can I help the process along?

Hello Sensible,Emsculpt is used in patients who are unable to workout due to certain conditions.  Emsculpt can build muscle mass and strengthens core muscles.  It would be sensible for insurance to eventually cover Emsculpt treatments in patients who are otherwise unable to workout, but who ever said that insurance companies are sensible.  At this time, Emsculpt is not covered by insurance.  Good luck and be well.Dr. PEncino, CA

You are correct that Emsculpt should help your core strength when treating the abdomen and lower back.  Be mindful that the treatment can only be done in areas that have no metal implants.  In fact, the electromagnetic technology was first developed by BTL in another form for use in physiotherapy to help with joint and muscle pain (See the BTLnet.com).  The Emsculpt device, however, is purely an aesthetic device and unfortunately is not covered by insurance.  If you have a Health Savings Account, you may be able to use those funds to cover the Emsculpt treatment.

I agree that this will help you build your core and help  with your scoliosis.   However, it is not FDA cleared device to treat scoliosis, so it will not be covered. 
However, if you have FSA or HSA account, and if you can get your doctor to recommend EmSCulpt as part of your treatment plan, you can submit the claim to be covered under these plans.   That is the best you can do at this moment.
