Can I have a colonic 4 days before an extended tummy tuck?

I think it would be fine to have this done 4 days ahead of surgery.  As always, it is best to discuss with your plastic surgeon.  Good luck.

The best one to answer your question is your Surgeon. Many colonics or enema may create more abdominal distension and the risk of diarrhea just before or after the surgery, and the benefit for the colonic may be minimal.

Thank you for your question.  I see no reason why you could not have a colonic before your tummy tuck.  Decompression of the intestines will help increase the amount of muscle tightening that can be performed at surgery.   The colonic may increase your risk of dehydration, so make sure you maintain adequate fluid intake prior to surgery.  Additionally, you should check with your surgeon beforehand.  Good luck.

Nothing substitutes for a conversation with your own surgeon, and I would recommend that you contact them to discuss the matter further.  They may have some questions for you, as the term "colonic" is not specific.  The term can cover a variety of treatments from innocuous home health kits to visits to hydrotherapy clinics that may employ high volume colon cleansers with substances such as herbs or even coffee.  I think I would be reluctant to permit a patient under my care to undergo some of these procedures as they could risk dehydration, electrolyte balance, or even bacteremia (bacteria entering the blood stream) that could increase risk of infection.  Best of luck with your upcoming surgery.
